Information for Physicians

Children are routinely referred to rule out hearing loss due to physician/parent concerns about poor speech.  On receipt of your referral, families are scheduled within one week, and sooner, rather than later.

The evaluation takes 30-45 minutes.  The protocol is to gather a history, observe and gather speech and motor development information using an informal screen or the ELM-Scale 2, perform otoscopy, condition and test pure tones using either visual reinforcement audiometry or play audiometry—depending on the apparent development age, and confirm thresholds with speech audiometry.

Bone conduction, word discrimination, otoacoustic emissions – both Transient and Distortion Product can be tested, depending on the age and need. Counseling and service coordination, including referrals to Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS) and the Local Education Association (LEA) will be offered unless specifically requested to not provide these services.

Please FAX referrals to us at 865-357-2416, and include your NPI and ID number for insurance filing.  If you have a preference for FAXed or mailed reports, please let us know.
