Simple Steps to
Protect Your Hearing
There are simple steps that you can take to prevent hearing loss during everyday activity.
Here is a short list you can follow to maintain quality hearing.
- Wear ear protection in noisy environments. Be vigilant about using appropriate sound plugs.
- Custom ear plugs can be made for people as young as one month old.
- Pieces of cotton stuffed in the ears are always inadequate as a means to prevent hearing loss.
- With personal portable music systems, if
the person standing next to you can tell what you are listening to through earphones, the music is probably too loud and should be turned down.
- Provide sound protection for yourself and your children when attending noisy events such as car races and music concerts.
- If you are exposed to loud noise and sense hearing loss, arrange to be seen immediately by a physician that specializes in diseases of the ear.
- If you have a family history of later-onset hearing loss, have regular hearing tests so that problems can be recognized and addressed early.
