Testing Hearing in Seniors
"Senior" may be an age or a state of mind or a state of body.
If the individual is ill, no matter what the age, accommodations in the test time, type and procedure can usually be made.
Many automatic hearing tests ease the experience for the individual.
Appalachian Audiology also utilizes a wheelchair accessible sound booth.
A diagnostic evaluation is necessary to fit hearing aids, to quantify a sudden hearing loss, to provide helpful information to the physician who referred for a specific reason.
This includes a comprehensive hearing history, visual exam of the ears and several tests in the sound booth. The outer, middle and inner ears are evaluated. Tolerance to loud sounds is also measured.
Noise may be introduced to measure word understanding in the presence of background noise.
Should I See an Audiologist?
Many times hearing loss goes undetected for years before being diagnosed and properly treated.
You can take a short hearing self-test and see if you currently experience any conditions that are indications of hearing loss.
If you are experiencing any hearing loss have your hearing tested by an ASHA certified audiologist.
