Evaluating Adults
A
diagnostic hearing evaluation is necessary to fit hearing aids, to quantify a sudden hearing loss or to provide helpful information to the physician who referred for a specific reason.
This includes a comprehensive hearing history, visual exam of the ears and several tests in the sound booth.
The outer, middle and inner ears are measured. Tolerance to loud sounds is also measured.
Noise may be introduced to measure word understanding in the presence of background noise.
Once you receive your examination, an audiologist will interpret results and provide you with specific recommendations.
An
auditory processing test may be recommended for peope with normal hearing sensitivity but difficulty hearing in some environments.
Should I See an Audiologist?
Many times hearing loss goes undetected for years before being diagnosed and properly treated.
You can take a short hearing self-test and see if you currently experience any conditions that are indications of hearing loss.
If you are experiencing any hearing loss have your hearing tested by an ASHA certified audiologist.
