This is the season for slick roads. As the safety of our staff and patients is of the most importance, if you feel you are unable to safely make it into the office due to weather let us know and we will gladly reschedule your appointment.
We may also contact you to advise of any office closure due to weather. In the event that the office is closed, the best way to contact us is via email.
Cochlear Implant Q&A Session
During this seminar, Dr. Andrea Plotkowski will present on candidacy criteria, the evaluation process, and the steps of receiving an implant. You will learn how the technology works and see the options for internal and external parts. We will review outcome expectations and discuss the adjustment and rehabilitation period.

Hidden Hearing Loss
What if you pass a standard hearing test, but you still feel like you have more difficulty understanding speech in noise than your family and friends?
The pure tone threshold audiogram may not pick up on all aspects of hearing loss. Sometimes the loss can be “hidden” on a hearing test, where you can still detect very soft sounds, but the processing of speech versus noise is affected.
Managing Single Sided Deafness - 2019 FDA update
Single Sided Deafness (SSD) means that one hear ears well and the other has profound hearing loss and is unaidable. The hearing loss can be from birth or can happen suddenly due to trauma or viral infection.
Individuals with SSD have a unique set of hearing needs. Often their friends and family are confused because sometimes they understand and communicate well and other times they don’t.
Inner Ear Hair Cell Regeneration Trials
Most hearing loss is caused by damage to the hair cells within the inner ear or cochlea. When these cells are damaged, they do not repair themselves or regenerate. But when we look to nature, some species exist that are able to regenerate this type of cell. Innovative research is attempting to see if we can learn how to apply this to hearing cells in mammals.
